What a company bookmark is used for

Its home ground is mass handouts where weight matters: book fairs, libraries, publishers, universities, bookshops and company reading clubs. A thousand 5 × 15 cm card bookmarks weigh about 3 kg and fit in a small box, so taking them to a stand does not complicate the logistics.

Unlike a leaflet, it is kept inside the book the person is already reading and seen every time they open it. In-house, it completes a desk kit alongside a notebook and a pen, or goes with an annual report or a corporate book.

Materials and printing

Standard 350 gsm card, laminated on both sides, is printed in full colour by digital or offset and is the choice for fairs and libraries. Thick card, up to 600 gsm, takes gold or silver hot foil or embossing, and suits publishers and launches.

For gifts, 2 to 3 mm birch or bamboo wood is laser engraved in the tone of the wood; brass or steel of 0.3 to 0.5 mm is laser engraved or die-cut with your outline and a tassel; and leather or faux leather of 1.5 to 2 mm is blind embossed or hot stamped.

How to choose printed bookmarks

According to the handout: For handing out in quantity at a fair, card does the job best. Metal, wood and leather are gift materials, meant for clients, anniversaries or to go with a book.
Weight and finish: In card, between 300 and 400 gsm, with a matt, gloss or soft-touch laminate and rounded corners if you want it to last longer in the book.
Content on both sides: Your logo in one corner and the rest for something useful: a calendar, a quotation or a tested QR code that leads to a page designed for the reader. Leave a few millimetres of safety margin so the text is not lost when cutting.
Environmental criteria: Recycled card without lamination and wood are the more sustainable options. Plastic lamination extends the life of the bookmark but makes the paper harder to recycle.
